"Before we can talk about anything meaningful, you'll have to be at least aware of your elaborate entourage. I'm referring to your barrage of habitual feelings and thoughts; your personal history, everything that makes you into what you think you are; a unique and special person. Those habitual feelings and thoughts are the source of all our troubles." (p. 38)

「意願（intent）是維持宇宙的力量，它是使一切事物產生注意力的力量。它使世界發生。」

"What exactly do you mean by 'intend it'?"

"Intent is the power that upholds the universe," she said. "It is the force that gives focus to everything. It makes the world happen." (p. 40)

「從現在開始，你必須過一種生活，把意識放在最優先，你必須避免一切使你的身體或心智虛弱的事物。因為比一切都要優先的，你要先成為一體。」

"From now on, you have to lead a life in which awareness has top priority. You must avoid anything that is weakening and harmful to your body or your mind. Because before anything else, you must acquire unity."

我們相信我們內在有一種二元性；心靈是我們內在無實質的一部份，而肉體是我們具體的一部份。這種分別使我們的能量處於一種混亂的斷裂中，無法癒合。

We are convinced that a dualism exists in us; that the mind is the insubstantial part of ourselves, and the body is the concrete part. This division keeps our energy in a state of chaotic separation, and prevents it from coalescing.

我們人類的確是處於分裂的狀態，但是我們的分裂不是心靈與肉體，而是在肉體（body）與分身（double；能量體）之間；肉體容納著心靈與自我，分身（能量體）則是我們基本能量的容器。

Being divided is our human condition," she admitted. "But our division is not between the mind and the body, but between the body, which houses the mind or the self, and the double, which is the receptacle of our basic energy.

在出生前，人類的二元性並不存在，但是從出生後，人類的意願便把這兩部份拉開來。一部份朝外發展，成為肉體；另一部份朝內發展，成為分身（能量體）。

Before birth, man's imposed duality doesn't exist, but that from birth on, the two parts are separated by the pull of mankind's intent. One part turns outward and becomes the physical body; the other, inward and becomes the double.

在死亡時，較重的部份，肉體，回歸為塵土，被大地所吸收；而較輕的部份，分身（能量體），就自由離去。但是很不幸的，由於分身從來沒有發展完滿，它只能體驗自由一剎那，然後就消散在宇宙中。如果我們死亡時沒有抹去我們錯誤的肉體與心靈二元性，我們就會死於平常的死亡。

At death the heavier part, the body, returns to the earth to be absorbed by it, and the light part, the double, becomes free. But unfortunately, since the double was never perfected, it experiences freedom for only an instant, before it is scattered into the universe. If we die without erasing our false dualism of body and mind, we die an ordinary death.

我們會死亡，因為我們的知覺沒有接受我們可以超越昇華的可能性。這種超越一定要在我們活著時候達成，而達成這項任務，是我們人類所能擁有的真正目標。所有其他的成就都是暫時的，因為死亡最後會把它們化解為空無。

We die because the possibility that we could be transformed hasn't entered our conception. This transformation must be accomplished during our lifetime, and that to succeed in this task is the only true purpose a human being can have. All other attainments are transient since death dissolves them into nothingness. (The Sorcerers' Crossing, pp. 42-43)
